Lupita Nyong’o has been named as the
recipient of the Breakthrough Performance
Award at the 25 th annual Palm Springs
International Film Festival.
This comes days after Lupita was named best
supporting actress by the Los Angeles Film
Critics Association for her role as Patsey in the
critically acclaimed film ’12 Years a Slave’.
Lupita will be presented with the award next
year on January 4 th. at a gala that will see
stars Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, director
Steve McQueen, Matthew McConaughey and
Bruce Dern also pick up awards.
Past winners of the award include Jennifer
Hudson for her breakout role in ‘Dreamgirls’,
Mariah Carey, Felicity, Marion Cotillard and
Bourne Identity star Jeremy Renner. Many of
the award’s past winners have gone on to
garner an Oscar award for their work. Let’s
hope that that shall be the case for Lupita.
