Migori Governor Okoth Obado is in trouble after failing to appear before Senate’s Public Accounts Committee to answer to queries about misappropriation of funds.

The Committee sitting at Kisii County assembly had summed Governor Obado but neither him nor officers from his administration showed up for the hearing forcing the committee to schedule the hearing to a later date.

Obado was expected to appear for the grilling at 10am.

Committee chair Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko said Obado had sent a casual text to a Senate committee member stating he would not appear.

Ayacko said the governor had also failed to submit crucial documents asked of him to the committee and auditors.

Of question is Sh1.3 billion in unreconciled bank balances, Sh1.5 billion in irregular payment of legal fees and Sh1.7 in unexplained acquisition of assets.

The governor is also supposed to answer to more than Sh60 million irregularly transfer as scholarship and other educational benefits amounting to Sh59 million.

The committee asked the governor to appear before it on June 4 failure to which they’ll be forced to use its powers and ask the police to escort him to the venue.
