Prince Misizulu has been named the next King of the Zulu, to take over after the death of his mother Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu.

The son of late King Goodwill Zwelithini was named in the will of his mother who died unexpectedly last week.

King Zwelithini picked her to take over leadership of the tribe, the role she assumed after his death earlier in March.

The announcement of the 46 year old as King was named amid open protest from some members of the family in a televised event at KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in South Afica’s Kwazulu-Natall province.

Prince Misizulu is now expected to lead the Zulu nation of about 11 million people.

King Zwelithini died from diabetes-related complications at the age of 72 and had six wives and at least 26 children.

The queen on the other hand died at 65 and the cause of death is yet to be made public.
