Nairobi – Ministry of Health has warned members of the public from eating boiled eggs from the streets of Nairobi because they are fit for human consumption.

Samples collected from selected areas, tested and analyzed at the National Microbiology Reference Biology for bacteria and contamination revealed high presence of Escherichia coli (E. Coli) bacteria and disease-causing germs.

Any amount of E. coli bacteria in food indicates the presence of human or animal faecal contamination and in the case of Nairobi, contamination might have occurred either at preparation or handling.

Boiled eggs are sold at different points including bus stations while some venders often opt to hawk their eggs to reach more customers.

The boiled eggs are usually accompanied with kachumbari which is a mixture of cut onions, tomatoes, coriander and hot pepper when eating.
