Indian Covid-19 variant found in 44 countries, all regions: WHO

The World Health Organization said Wednesday the Covid-19 variant behind India’s explosive outbreak had been detected in labs in many countries around the world.

The international health body for the United Nation said the B.1.617 variant of Covid-19, that was first discovered in the country in October las year, had been detected in sequences uploaded to the GISAID open-access database from 44 countries.

The WHO said it had received also received reports of detections from five other countries.
