EACC goes after Obado hard in new case

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has come hard on Obado after it filed new charges against Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Obado is likely to lose some of his assests in a new case filed against him, his children and some of his close allies and business associates.

In the case, EACC seeks to recover over Ksh. 73 million it believes was acquired fraudulently by the governor and his co-accused.

The Migori governor is being accused alongside his daughters Evelyne Adhiambo Zachary, Scarlet Susan Okoth, Dan Ochola Okoth and Jerry Okoth.

Others are Jared Peter Odoyo Oluoch Kwaga and 13 companies alleged to have engaged in fraudulent tendering activities in Migori county.

EACC said it has obtained evidence showing that people close to Obado, registered companies which they used to fraudulently acquire tenders in Migori County with the anti corruption watchdog saying the governor benefited directly from the deals through kickbacks.

The commission said money from these fraudulent deals were then allegedly used in funding activities including education of the governor’s children abroad, buying two high end vehicles and a house in Nairobi among other corrupts dealings under investigation.

In the case against Obado, EACC says the government lost over Kshs73 million through the unlawful acquisition of tender deals and already the EACC has pressed charges against up to 15 individuals.

The EACC has sought orders to seize the two high end vehicles and the house which it linked to the alleged corrupt dealings.

The EACC has also sought orders to freeze the governor’s accounts as well as barring the governor from selling the property in contention.
