SIAYA – Siaya county Governor Cornel Rasanga has announced plans to audit dead bodies in its morgues, in new Covid-19 control measures.

This is after the County Covid-19 Emergency Response Committee came up with the measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 amid concerns over increasing number of cases in the Lake Region.

Governor Rasanga said they will conduct the audit through continuous visits in all morgues in the county in bid to confirm the number of bodies and their admission dates.

The governor insisted that all bodies were to be buried within 48 hours upon death and the funeral be concluded by noon.

He also banned cooking and feasting at funerals and at the same time directed Public health officers to enforce compliance of the new regulations.

The audit is inline with a monitoring and evaluation tool developed by the Covid-19 Emergency Response committee to help in assessing the compliance of Ministry of Health protocols in the County.

The new measures also require local administration through chiefs to submit lists of funerals in their areas of jurisdiction.

Saiya has so far lost 32 people to Covid-19 where two people died in the last seven days. This is from 1,107 confirmed cases out of  14,143 samples tested since March 2020.
