Military officers in Mali have arrested the President, Prime Minister and Minister for Defence in the country’s interim government.

This is just hours after after a cabinet reshuffle in the interim government that resulted from the ouster of elected President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

President Bah Ndaw, Prime Minister Moctar Ouane and Defence Minister Souleymane Doucoure were all taken to a military base in Kati outside the capital Bamako Reuters reported.

Ndaw and Ouane had been tasked with overseeing an 18-month transition back to civilian rule after the army handed back power following threats about sanctions after the coup in September last year.

Military officers however retained key positions raising worries among the opposition.
