PRETORIA – A woman from South Africa has broken the Guinness World Record after she gave birth to decuplets.

Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, gave birth to her 10 babies, two more than doctors had earlier detected during the medical scans, at a hospital in Pretoria.

This was barely a month after another woman, Malian Halima Cissé from Morocco, gave birth to nine babies.

According to the woman’s husband Teboho Tsotetsi, she delivered seven boys and three girls by Caesarean section 29 weeks into her pregnancy.

“It’s seven boys and three girls. She was seven months and seven days pregnant. I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much. Let’s talk again in the morning please,” Tsotetsi was quoted by Pretoria News.

Sithole had six year old twins and had previously said that her decuplet pregnancy was natural as she was not on any fertility treatment.

The children had to be taken out pre-term because there is not enough space in the womb for the children, and the tendency is that they will be small.

This condition is also a rarity and is usually caused by fertility treatments where one injects as many eggs as possible to increase the chances of conception because the assumption is that some of them would die.
