NAIROBI – Deputy President William Ruto has picked Migori Governor Okoth Obado as his pointman in Nyanza.
DP Ruto aims at using the Governor’s People’s Democratic Movement (PDP) party to gain inroads in ODM leader Raila Odinga’s perceived home turf.
According to Daily Nation, Governor Obado will be the point man in wider scheme to get a share of ODM party’s votes in the region in the 2022 general elections.
This is after Obado met with the DP’s brother, David Ruto, and who is reported to have launched the ‘Hustler’ movement in Kisumu.
The DP’s brother hosted Obado at his Kileleshwa home in Nairobi, a move that was seen to kickstart plans for campaigns.
Obado confirmed meeting the DP’s brother saying that they met as politicians and discussed a number of issues but declined to disclose more details of their discussions.
The governor, who also confirmed being the de facto leader of PDP, however cautioned that the visit should not be blown out of proportion since the DP’s brother does not hold any position in the political circles.
“Let us not create a mountain out of the visit. It was not political and should be treated as such. If I’ve anything political, I’d discuss it with the Deputy President himself. Let people not read too much into such meetings,” said Obado.
