Kisumu County Assembly Suspends Business amid Covid-19 surge

KISUMU – Kisumu County Assembly was Wednesday June 9, closed for two weeks amidst in increase in Covid-19 cases in the lakeside city.

Speaker Elisha Oraro in a communication to the members during the Wednesday morning session, directed the Members of County Assembly to use the break to sensitize members of the public on the measures aimed at preventing the the spread of the virus.

Oraro said it was upon the leaders to lead by example by encouraging members of the public to adhere to Ministry of Health protocols as there is no cure for the corona virus.

The speaker noted that the virus was spreading at an alarming rate with the County Assembly not spared either as members of staff and some MCAs had contracted the virus.

He said the Ministry of Health officials will fumigate the Assembly premises during the two weeks period ahead of the resumption of house businesses.

The speaker however said the budget committee will be exempted to ensure the budget process is not affected.


He said the committee will meet virtually if possible to enable the County Assembly deliver the budget within the stipulated time.
