Former Kiambu Governor Aspirant Aquiline Njoki is dead.
Njoki who has been working as a member of Kiambu County Public Service Board died on Wednesday, August 25.
According to Obituaries Kenya, Njoki died of Coronavirus-related complications.
“Aquiline Njoki, Vice Chairman of Kiambu County Public Service Board following Covid-19 related complications. RIP Aquiline,” the statement by Obituaries Kenya posted on Facebook read in part.
Many Kenyans took to various social media to pay their tribute.
Ann Wangui said; “RIP Aquiline Njoki, Kiambu we have lost.”
Another user, Gachiki Cyrus said; “Evening, United for Kiambu have lost a great pillar Aquiline Njoki.”
“So painful to learn you are no more, a leader with community passion, it is unbelievable that I will never receive your calls, Go well rafiki. I know you have left a legacy of women leadership in our Kiambu RIP,” Wambui Wa Gatongora said.
Weeks after James Nyoro assumed office as the Governor Kiambu County following the impeachment of Ferdinand Waititu the deceased declared interest in being appointed as the Deputy Governor.
This came just two years after she unsuccessfully contested for the gubernatorial seat.
Others who declared interest in the seat include; Former Ruiru Member of Parliament Esther Gathogo, Former Kiambu Woman Representative Anna Nyokabi Gatheca, former Gatundu South Member of Parliamentwife Joyce Ngugi and former woman representative aspirant Gladys Chania.
She was also a member of United for Kiambu group which was composed of Waititu, Nyoro as his running mate, engineer John Mugwe, and businessman and preacher Kariuki Ngare.
The five candidates joined forces to beat the then Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and propelled Waititu to office.
However, after he won the seat, Waititu left his friends in the cold.
