Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat began his stint at the national team with a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Mali.

The Kenyan side played Les Aigles (The Eagles) in a Group E 2022 World Cup qualifiers match Thursday night.

Firat took over the management of the team after a dramatic resignation of Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee and his technical team.

In a statement, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) said the resignation was in ‘mutual consent’.

But the defeat against Les Aigles raised questions on the qualifications of the new Turkish coach.

Confusion was evident just from the starting line up at the Stade Adrar in Agadir in Morocco.

Firat also started some players out of their usual positions, proving right questions Kenyans raised on the timing of his appointment.

Firstly, the former Moldova coach started Joash Onyango in an unfamiliar right-back position, whose error in the 8th minute put Mali ahead.

He also instituted an early surprise double substitution by withdrawing the returning Onyango for Hassan Abdallah. Midfielder Lawrence Juma was also brought in for Erick Zakayo.

Stars ended up letting in 5 goals at full time.

However, Kenyans angry with the loss, posted a video laughing at the type of training Harambee Stars got under Firat.
