KIRINYAGA – Kirinyaga residents want the government to supply them with condoms after a shortage hit the area ahead of Madaraka Day celebrations.
The residents’, mostly from Ngurubani ward, said the county witnessed an increase in commercial sex workers ahead of the Wednesday October 20 celebrations.

According to the residents, they risk contracting sexually transmitted infections due to a shortage of condoms.
Sex workers on the other hand claimed business was booming in Kirinyaga, thanks to the national event.
But they also joined the locals in demanding for condoms to ensure safe sex.
They equated their ‘business to Small and Medium Enteerpises (SMEs) and further asked equal support from the county government.
This comes as preparations were top notch to ensure the Mashujaa Day celebration was a success.
National celebrations committee said the preparations had surpassed 90 percent.
Interior PS Karanja Kibicho said Wang’uru, where the event will be hosted, was 95 percent complete. He also stated that beautification and renovation of Kerugoya mini-state lodge was 98 percent complete.
