Elisha Rotich breaks Kenenisa Bekele’s course record to win Paris Marathon

Kenya marathoner Elisha Rotich went into history books after breaking Kenenisa Bekele’s Paris Marathon course record.

This was as Rotich won the Paris Marathon at 2:04:21 over the 42 kilometre course Sunday October 17, 2021.

Elisha Rotich broke Bekele’s seven year record by slashing more than a minute off 2:05:04 set in 2014 by the veteran Ethiopian marathoner.

He was followed by Hailelmaryam Kiros of Ethiopia who clocked 2:04:42 . Kenya’s Hillary Kipsambu came third with 2:04:45.

Elsewhere, Angela Tanui won the Amsterdam Marathon women’s race after crossing the finish line at 2:17:57.

Fellow Kenyan Maureen Chepkemoi came in a distant second with a time of 2:20:18. Haven Hailu (Ethiopia) clinched position three with a time of 2:20:19.

In the men’s race, Kenya’s Bernard Koech clinched position two behind Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola. Leul Gebresilase came in third.
