Meet Dr. Waweru, Kenyan Lecturer Refereeing at AFCON

Many Kenyans fly the county flag through different ways on the international stage and Dr Peter Waweru is one of them.

Dr. Waweru in a Kenyan center referee who officiated Africa Cup of Nations game between first timers Comoros and Gabon.

The Group C opener took place at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, in the capital city of Yaounde in Cameroon and Gabon went ahead to win 1-0.

The high ranking referee is a University lecturer at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology

According to JKUAT, Dr. Waweru is a Pure and Applied Mathematics Lecturer, at the School of Mathematical Sciences, in the College of Pure and Applied Sciences (COPAS).

“He is an excellent example that anyone can excel at developing their talents and academics,” posted JKUAT on Facebook

“From @DiscoverJKUAT, we take this opportunity to wish him all the BEST in the entire tournament,” they said.

He first featured in a continental assignment in 2015 when he officiated at the CAF Under-17 tournament in Niger.

He then proceeded to Rwanda the following year for the 2016 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN).

Africa Cup of Nations began this Sunday at Dr. Waweru was named among 63 match officials who will preside over the tournament.
