Why North London Derby between Tottenham vs Arsenal was postponed

English premier league game between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal has been postponed.

In a communication seen by Payuka.Co.Ke, the game was to take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The game was called off the the EPL upon the request of the Gunners.

Arsenal could not continue with the game because insufficient players to honour the game, and their request was granted.

According to the gunners, many players in their squad are currently unavailable due to Covid-19 while some are out with injuries.

The Emirates Stadium side also said that other players were away with their countries at Africa Cup of Nations AFCON.

“We know how much this match means to our fans around the world, but the Premier League has made the decision to postpone the match, due to many players across our squad currently being unavailable as a result of COVID-19, existing and recent injuries, in addition to players away with their countries at AFCON,” said Arsenal.

“We will update you when we have further information regarding the rearrangement of the fixture,” they added.

Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all serving their nations away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

But postponements in the EPL are not a new thing as earlier this week Leicester’s game at Everton was postponed for a second time.

Like in the Arsenal’s case, Premier League stated that this was “due to COVID-19 cases, injuries and players on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations”.
