Migori police on Wednesday released speaker Boaz Okoth on Sh50,000 police bond. This was few hours after his arrest while breaking into an office at the Migori Assembly premises.

Seven other suspects arrested alongside the speaker however remained behind bars to spend the night awaiting arraignment.

Police officers grilled Okoth for over six hours before he was released on health grounds.

He was released at about 4:30pm with aides and several MCAs alongside members of staff blocking the press from taking shots while he was being led away.

“We released him after complains of sickness and poor health, the case though has been investigated and is ready for court tomorrow where Okoth and seven others will face charges of malicous damage of assembly property and theft,” Wanjala told reporters.

Okoth was arrested Wednesday February 2 for breaking into the county assembly premises.

This was after he later locked himself in his office for causing a standoff for about three hours.

Police said the group broke into finance officer Evans Ogutu office where they were carting away two computers and files.

Ogutu was in Nairobi during he break-in and is yet to record a statement.

“Ogutu was in Nairobi and he is coming to record a statement which will help in the case,” Wanjala said.
