Migori Speaker Boaz Okoth has been impeached.
Okoth was impeached in a meeting by Migori County Assembly after the resumption of house seating Tuesday February 8, 2022.
Speaker Boaz Okoth was impeached as speaker on grounds ranging from gross misconduct and abuse of office.
46 MCA’s were present in the Tuesday impeachment session where 42 supported the impeachment motion. Two voted down the motion while another two abstained.

While arguing the impeachment motion, the MCA’s accused the speaker of “using uncouth means to reign over them.”
Another MCA Ken Ngoro argued: “We have been so lenient, so human that we even sometimes fall into prayers owing to what ails him.”
Nominated MCA Florence Oile said that even the courts will not help the embattled speaker this time as they (MCA’s) had made up their mind since “he messed up the assembly”

His Deputy and Bukira East MCA Chacha Mathews will assume the role of speaker.
This comes just days after Okoth and seven others were arrested in the assembly premises after they broke into the office of chief finance officer.
