His Royal Highness Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex and Forfar, is in Kenya

Prince Edward aid a courtesy call to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday March 17, 2022 where the two held talks at State House, Nairobi.

In his remarks, Prince Edward commended President Kenyatta for his commitment to fighting for the needs of young people around the world.

According to Prince Edward, President Kenyatta championed for the needs of young people through the Duke of Edinburgh International Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh International Award award, was founded in 1956 by the late Prince Phillip.

The award gives young people aged 14 to 24 access to a global framework that empowers them to learn and grow through non-formal education while working towards a globally recognized accreditation.

President Kenyatta and Prince Edward also discussed the President’s Award Kenya, a self-development programme that equips young people across the country with positive life skills to make a difference for themselves, their communities, country and the world.

The President’s Award Kenya is a member of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Association.

The President’s Award Kenya has over 100,000 young people drawn from 750 schools, Universities, middle-level colleges, youth groups, rehabilitation centres and open award centres across the country participating.

“The Earl of Wessex is in Kenya to see the success of the award in the country and meet some of the young people currently taking part.

“His Royal Highness is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Award which was founded by his father in 1956, and currently operates in more than 130 countries worldwide,” read a statement by the Royal Family about the visit.

On his first day in Kenya, Prince Edward celebrated the Queen’s platinum jubilee by planting a tree in Kenya today.

The Pondo tree was in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Aberdare Open Field, Kenya – close to Treetops where his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was staying when she first learned she had acceded to the throne in 1952. 

Prince Edward is the youngest child of the Queen’s four children namely, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, and Prince Andrew.
