Residents of a village in Migori are in shock after a local leader embarassed them over what they said could have been avoided.

A highly placed source who spoke to this writer on conditions of anonimity could not speak as he stuggled to catch his breath after suffering a rude shock from what he witnessed.

The source said all was well in a small centre in a village in Nyatike, around midday, when all the shops had already opened their doors.

He said women had left their rice farms and were trooping to a nearby rice mill when the unthinkable happened.

According to him, it began with sounds of motorcyle horns from a distance, that grew loud as their would be guests drew near.

As this is a campaign period throughout the country in readiness for the August general election, the guests at the small centre knew ‘something small’ would be added to their income of the day.

Looking over his shoulder from time to time, our mole said that their hopes were confirmed when a group of motorcyles with full lights on, emerged from a bend on the main road passing through the centre.

One motorcyle had music blaring from a small speaker mounted on it, his playlist running on ‘this is a working government,’ whatever it meant.

But that is not the main story.

When the man behind this huge convoy of five bikes emerged, it was discovered to be Obado Kibaji, a renowned drunkard and the associations de facto chairman, in the company of his his favourite rider.

He was celebrating three days he had gone without tasting the outlawed chang’aa brew, something he thought was worth holding a rally about.

A local blogger with a nose for news sought to know why the notorious Obado was now an un-commisioned ambassador for alcohol anonymous.

Shock on him! Obado had difficulties accessing his favourice drinking den, four kilometres away on the Kenya-Tanzania border.

This was thanks to fuel shortage experienced across the country and he had a designated drinking partner who always makes un annoucned visits to chauffer him to the den, paying him with a glass or two.

According to the blogger, Obado waited for close to the whole day but his ride was not appearing.

Aggitated, he attempted to walk to the den, but because of ill health from from abuse of the brew, he could only make several steps from the centre.

It was here that a good samaritan picked him from a road-side ditch he had turned bedroom due to fatigue from the short walk in search of his ‘charge.’

Angry residents who had abandoned their jobs to wait to be ‘untied’ by the person they thought would be a politician could not hide their anger.

For instance, the boda rider who shared this this story with this writer had let go a Ksh30 deal from a customer who wanted to be dropped at her home four kilometres away.

Obado is doctoring injuries from the ‘rally’ as he contemplate seeking compensation.
