Rubis CEO Jean Bergeron Chased from Kenya over ‘Economic Sabotage’

The government has canceled with immediate effect the work permit of Rubis Energy CEO Jean Christian Bergeron.

This is after the government accused Jean Bergeron of economic sabotage, and ordered he is deported from Kenya with immediate effect.

Rubis is among the multinational energy companies on the governments radar for hoarding fuel and in turn causing an artificial shortage.

The shortage was amidst assuarances by the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) that there are enough petroleum stocks in Kenya.

Recently, high-ranking government sources intimated that the country’s third largest marketer, Rubis, is among those under watch for “unreliable supplies”.

“We have surveyed outlets across the country and Rubis stands out as having some queer shortages and rationed sales,” a senior government official said.

While Rubis CEO Jean Bergeron did not respond to calls and text messages by the media regarding the shortages, spot checks across the country revealed widespread shortages of petroleum products across its outlets over the past two weeks.

Mr Bergeron’s deportation comes even as the Energy and Petroleum Authority (EPRA) intensified investigations on suspect export sales by some marketers yet consumers in the local market went without supplies.

The country has in the recent weeks been grappling with fuel shortage, crippling the transport sector.

Long queues of motorists struggling to get the rare comodity are normal scenes at fuel stations in various parts of the country.

With high fuel prices, prices of comodities also shot up, subjecting Kenyans to tough economic times as the coutry recoveres from effects of Covid 19 pandemic.
