Several aspirants have been elected to fly the ODM flag in the just announced nomination results in Homa bay County.

The nomination exercise sailed to completion but chaos erupted in some areas, interrupting the ODM primaries for a while, and the party forced to postpone in other areas.

Chaos erupted as a group of ODM suppoters tried to access the County nomination tallying centre at Homa Bay high school but calm was restored.

Police employed the use of tear gas canisters into the hall while shooting in the air to disperse the crowd that had accompanied their aspirants inside the tallying hall with another huge crowd struggling to invade the premises.

ODM National Elections Board (NEB) Secretary Abdullahi Giriye who was present witnessed the chaos.

But with a return of calm normalcy, former CEC for Roads in Kisumu Dr. Joyce Osogo was announced as the winner in the Women Rep position with 16,886 votes.

Votes gannered by other aspirants were Beatrice Ogolla (CEC Homa Bay) 15,415 ,Moline Ngala (11,405), Lavender Akoth Ojala (10,761), Florence Ouma (8,566), and Tabitha Nyadiek (4,364).

Member of Parliament for Karachuonyo Adipo Okuome won the ODM ticket to defend his seat with 4,286 votes.

He vied against Samwel Ogutu (2,271), Elijah Odondi Kodo (1,103), Leonard Menya Ongonge (601), Paul Otula (484), and Sammy Owino (331).

In Ndhiwa MP incumbent Martin Owino also won the ODM nomination ticket with 5,196 votes.

Owino won over Michael Agwanda (2,233), Dancun Osodo (1,127), John Ouma Ongoro (544), Johnson Oduru (398) and Tom Obondo (299). Others were Peter Kojwang’ (140), Cleopas Ojode (37), and Alfred Yambo (27).

Previously, direct ODM nomination certificates had been given to Governor aspirant Gladys Wanga and Senator Moses Kajwang’ and the rest of the MPs.

MPs in Homa Bay with direct nomination certificates are Lillian Gogo (Rangwe), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North) Opondo Kaluma (Homa Bay) and Eve Obara (Kabondo Kasipul).

Suba South MP John Mbadi dropped out of Homa Bay County governor race and will not defend his seat.
