The World Health Organization on May 7 approved China’s Sinopharm vaccine for emergency use.

This brings the total number of the total approved Covid -19 vaccines to six.

This comes after India, a major vaccine maker stopped all exports of Covid-19 vaccine to address its increasing number of coronavirus cases.

Richer countries are also hoarding the doses.

Speaking during the announcement, WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the organization was exploring all avenues to increase access to vaccines globally.

This approval will allow the Sinopharm vaccine to be included in the WHO’s Covax aimed at equal distribution of Covid-19 vaccines around the world.

This validation approves the vaccines for safety, efficacy and quality.
