Top 10 best airlines in Africa in New Ranking

A new survey has ranked the top 10 best airlines in Africa. The survey by Skytrax ranked top 100 airlines in the world in 2021.

 The ranking was based on customer surveys done in 23 months, from September 2019 to July 2021. This comprised a mix of more normal travel times and pandemic travel.

Over 13 million travelers worldwide nominated their best airlines. They ranked specific aspects of the customer experience on a scale of one to five.

The travelers commented on different aspects such as cabin service, COVID-19 response, ground/airport services, and the onboard product.

The survey involved over 350 airlines in the final results.

Here are 2021 top 10 best airlines in Africa in top ranking.

10. Fastjet

Fastjet Plc is a British/South African-based holding company for a group of low-cost carriers that operate in Africa.

Its aim is to become the continent’s first low-cost, pan-African airline. It operates in Kenya under Fly540, Tanzania Zimbabwe, Mozambique with plans for South Africa.

Egypt Air

9. Egyptair

This is the national carrier for Egypt. The airline is based at Cairo International Airport.

It operates within Egypt and Africa as well as  Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America.

8. FlySafair

FlySafair is a low-cost South African airline based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The airline majors domestic flights within South Africa, flying to more than five different destinations across the country.

FlySafair has its hubs based in Cape Town International Airport (CPT), OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) and King Shaka International Airport (DUR).

Rwandair

This is the National carrier for Rwanda and currently flies to over 30 destinations around the world.

These include Western, Central, Eastern and Southern Africa as well as the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

The airline is based at Kigali International Airport (KGL)

Air Seychelles is the national carrier of Seychelles and is headquartered on the island of Mahe.

But this airline flies to several destinations across multiple countries in Africa and central/eastern Asia.

5. Air Mauritius

Air Mauritius is the national airline of Mauritius. It is based at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Port Louis, Mauritius.

It is however the fourth largest carrier in sub-Saharan Africa.

4. Royal Air Maroc

Royal Air Maroc, also known as ‘RAM’, is the largest airline in Morocco. It came about in July 1953, from a merger of Air Maroc and Air Atlas.

The airline headquarters is Casablanca-Anfa Airport, near the Moroccan city of Casablanca, but its primary hub airport is Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport.

3. Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways is the national carrier of Kenya. It is also one of the largest airlines in Africa, and flies all across the world to top destinations.

Kenya Airways holds the 2016 and 2017 World Travel Award for Africa’s Leading Airline thanks to a friendly crew and helpful staff.

It is also known as ‘the Pride of Africa’.

South African Airways

2. South African Airways

This is the flag carrier of South Africa. It has hubs at Johannesburg and Cape Town, ranking as one of the largest airlines in Africa.

It operates throughout Africa as well as North America, South America, Asia, Australia and Europe. SAA became a member of the Star Alliance in 2006.

1. Ethiopian Airlines

Top of Africa is Ethiopian Airlines. Ethiopian Airlines is the national airline of Ethiopia and is based in Addis Ababa.

It flies to 60 international destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America. Ethiopian Airlines became a member of Star Alliance in Dec-2011.
