NAIROBI – Former Samburu Senator Sammy Leshore will replace Isaac Mwaura after Independent Electoral and Bounderies Commission gazetted the replacement as nominated senator.

This is after a gazette notice declaring Mwaura’s seat vacant was released yesterday by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.

The decision was endorsed by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.

In a gazette notice dated May 11, IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati said Mwaura stands disqualified as a member of the Senate representing persons with disabilities.

Chebukati announced Mwaura’s replacement with Leshore who served as a Member of Parliament for Samburu East between 1993 to 2002.

He was again elected as Samburu Senator in 2013 but lost the seat to Ltumbesi Lelegwe in the 2017 General Election.

Mwaura joined Jubilee after ditching ODM where he had also been nominated in the run up to the 2017 general election.
