NAIROBI – A woman in Kapenguria, West Pokot County in Kenya’s Rift Valley has shocked residents after she left her husband to marry the Holy spirit over claims it was a directive by God.

Elizabeth Nalem, a mother of six, said God appeared to her in a dream, and had instructed her to leave her husband to spread His word.

The wedding attracted curious residents who gathered to witness the unusual event where the bride got married to the Holy Spirit.

Nalem alleged that the Holy Spirit directed her to pastor Albert Rumaita who then bought her the gown, hired vehicles, and even organised the ceremony held at Chelangaa gardens in Kapenguria’s Makutano town.

Locals accompanied the bride in song and dance as she made a dramatic entrance into the town in an appealing white bridal gown, followed by friends and devotees on her May 26 wedding.

The service then began with pastor Rumaita praying for her as she started a new chapter in her new marriage life.

She said she had served the world for a long time and was now ready to dedicate her life in service to the Lord.

Locals had at first mistaken the woman to be suffering from a mental disorder as she exhibited weird praying patterns, retreating for prayer at odd hours of in the night.

But Nalem said she had a lengthy discussion with the pastor who had, for the better part of her life, guided her spiritually.

Pastor Rumuita said he took the bold step to conduct the ceremony after the woman approached him claiming her wish had been dismissed by her church pastor.

Joshua Nalem, the woman’s husband, said his wife moved out of their matrimonial home after he questioned her 3 AM prayers.

A shocked Joshua said he couldn’t comprehend what his wife was doing since he had paid 22 cows for her dowry and had six children where the eldest sat for his Form four national exam recently.

He said they were yet to divorce.
