MIGORI – This article is about a letter to ODM leader Raila Odinga by a resident of Suna East constituency in Migori county.

Suna East hosts the headquarters of Migori county with Junet Mohammed as the member of parliament.

Junet is serving his second term since his election in the 2013 general election on the ODM party.

The minority whip in the national assembly of Kenya also serves as the director of elections in the ODM party.

The two term MP seems to be having a lot on his plate owing to his proximity to his party leader Raila Odinga. The engagements on the national front for ODM have however elicited reactions from his constituents.

Of the many is a Facebook user Oketch Gooner Odedo who voiced his concern in one of the leading social media groups in Migori.

In his message, Odedo implored Raila Odinga to appoint his MP, Junet Mohammed to a national post in 2022 if president.

According to the resident, Junet could not serve Suna East since he served Raila ‘up there.’

Odedo however acknowledged the role the legislator played to Raila especially in his ongoing Azimio La Umoja campaigns.

“We the Suna East residents, we appreciate this courage and contributions he has showcased in your campaigns,” wrote Odedo.

Odedo said Suna East would only benefit from a Raila Odinga presidency if another leader took the place of Junet in Suna East.

“This will allow us to elect someone who will works with the locals for the benefit of the constituency,”

“Suna East wont enjoy the fruits of your noble leadership with him at the helm of the leadership,”

“This humble request is tabled by a concerned constituent,”

Junet helping Raila nationally

In June this year, Junet Mohammed came under fire from aspirant Samuel Amimo, who accused him of abandoning his mandate as Suna East MP.

According to Amimo, Junet created a fallacy of ‘busy helping Raila nationally’, to escape serving the people of suna East.

Amino added that Junet rode on the promise to “help ODM with Muslim voters” but said the outcome was yet to materialize.

“We need to know if Junet receives mileage allowance from parliament and how he uses it, because for over a year he has never been seen in the constituency. Suna East residents need to vote for a leader to tackle their issues,” said Amimo in an interview with Migori News.

Junet has in the past however referred to himself as Raila’s cow, a thing he said kept him in good books with his party leader.

“As for Duale, when you see us following Baba like cows, it is because we fear the consequences like what you are facing today,” he said.
